Crew Course

ANNOUNCEMENT

Join us for a special 5-day course in the Whitsundays July 21-25. Departing Hamilton Island, experience all that the Whitsundays have to offer as you complete your crew or skipper course. As well as training there is time to swim, snorkel and relax. Details here.

Become a competent crew with this immersive and comprehensive 4-day, liveaboard experience. Discover the basics as we head down the river, then set the sails and begin your sailing adventure! You will hoist and trim sails, learn the points of sailing, and be on the helm in no time as we sail to Wyndham Harbour for a hot shower and dinner. Day 2 of the crew course involves steering to a heading and navigating down the Coles Channel before we head to the Port Phillip Heads and learn to navigate the Rip safely before we head to nearby Queenscliff Cruising Yacht Club for a drink on the club deck and BBQ. On Day 3 your skills are tested as we navigate up the Westerm Channel and enjoy a long sail up the bay to Docklands. Stay overnight at Docklands. Our last day includes some special challenges. Each morning includes about 90 minutes’ theory.

You will build confidence, experience and skills with no pressure and plenty of hands-on work. From safety, ropework and sail trim, to basic navigation, seamanship and taking the helm. This IYT accredited course is internationally recognised and will prepare you for cruising or racing and is the pre-requisite for International Bareboat Skipper.

Both International Crew and Bareboat Skipper attend the same course, but have different roles and learning outcomes. This is ideal for couples and families that have different levels of experience.

No prior experience necessary.

Our courses include some distinctive offerings, such as pastries for breakfast, a Greek BBQ dinner and relaxed, inclusive and welcoming vibe.

The theory component is currently provided at no cost either through the handbook, or using the IYT e-learning. You can undertake the theory before or after the practical, and should take the exam after your practical crew course.

The lower cost is for a shared berth in a cabin or a saloon berth. A saloon berth is a lounge in the main cabin that converts to a comfy bed. Single berths subject to availability. Couples share a private cabin.
