IYT Worldwide Yachtmaster Coastal Certification

Push your sailing skills further and earn the internationally respected IYT Yachtmaster Coastal Certificate. This challenging 7-day liveaboard course on board SV Persephone includes both training and your on-water practical exam.

Designed for those ready to take command in more complex conditions, this course focuses on leadership, advanced seamanship, and confident navigation.

May be taken as YM Coastal Certificate or as a mile-builder

Course Highlights:

  • Develop and test your skippering skills under real-world conditions

  • Gain 7 days of logged sea time (including 2 days as skipper)

  • Includes 2-3 nights of sailing with night watches

  • Theory included

This is a serious coastal passage designed to cement the skills learned in the Bareboat or Day Skipper courses and take you to the next level. You’ll gain real offshore experience: night watches, complex coastal navigation, and hands-on weather analysis for passage planning. Comprehensive exercises in navigation, passage planning, anchoring and pilotage will extend your skills and experience. It’s a test of ability—and a massive confidence boost.

Note: The itinerary is highly weather-dependent. Flexibility is key.

Accommodation Options

Semi-Private Sea Berth (1 person)
Cosy bunk with privacy curtain, tucked starboard-aft. About the size of a singlebed. Comfortable and secure at sea. (Mel-Syd – $2,990; Syd-Hob $3,290)

V-Berth Cabin (1 person)
Private cabin in the bow with door, hatch, and storage (photo below). Bed tapers from full-size aft to narrower forward. Suits a solo traveller or smaller couple. (Mel-Syd – $3,890; Syd-Hob $3,990)

Master Cabin (2 people)
Fully private cabin with queen-sized bed. Twin-share basis for two people. Best comfort and space on board. ($5,490 for one or two people)

Saloon Berth (1 person)
Single berth in the communal saloon, with shelf storage. Least private option — economical option for easy sleepers. (Mel-Syd – $2,490; Syd-Hob $2,990)

Please note, this is the International Yacht Training recreational Yachtmaster Coastal Sail Certificate. This certification is for recreational use only and is equivalent to the RYA Coastal Skipper course. This course is a useful bridging course for the commercial RYA Yachtmaster (Offshore) exam which is taken through an RYA accredited school.
