International Certificate of Competence (ICC)

The International Certificate of Competence (ICC) is your passport to cruising the world. The EU and many other countries require this certificate for yacht charters. We offer different pathways to the ICC depending on your experience. We make sure you are not only qualified, but have learnt key skills to enjoy hassle-free cruising and provide other resources to help make your Mediterranean holiday perfect. Don’t be under-prepared or risk having your charter cancelled. Gain the ICC, use our resources and prepare for one of the greatest holidays in the world.

Standard Pathway

The most common pathway to the International Certificate of Competence (ICC) is to take three of our courses – International Crew, Bareboat Skipper and VHF Marine Radio. Once you have completed these qualifications it is only a matter of completing an application and you are set to go. Our Bareboat Skipper course includes modules that cover Mediterranean style berthing and other skills that you need for the Med.

If you are already a competent crew with 100 NM and 5 days’ sea time then you can undertake the Bareboat Skipper self-assessment to start at Bareboat Skipper level.

Fast-Track Pathway

Very experienced skippers, usually those who own a yacht, or those with other suitable qualifications, may qualify for our Fast Track pathway. This consists of:

  • Self-assessment
  • Providing a sailing log
  • Completing an online theory test
  • A 2-4 hour on-water assessment (Safety briefing, sailing, MOB, reefing, mooring, berthing, docking)

We now regular assessments with up to 3 people. Group assessments are held on Thursday mornings approximately every two months and cost $590, including the cost of the ICC. See dates and booking below.

Private lessons and assessments also available. Often people book a whole day, with some training in the morning, and assessment in the afternoon.  Private lessons and assessments cost is $860 for the assessment (up to 4 hrs) or $1190 for a full day (weekday rate).  Please phone or email to find a suitable day.

You will also need to obtain the VHF Marine Radio license if you haven’t already.

Getting started along the Fast-Track Pathway is easy. Just click the button below which takes you to a free ‘course’ that guides you through the necessary steps.  You will be able to assess whetehr you are ready for the Fast_track Pathway and upload your documents.
