International Certificate of Competence (ICC)

The International Certificate of Competence (ICC) is your passport to cruising the world. The EU and many other countries require this certificate for yacht charters. We offer different pathways to the ICC depending on your experience. We make sure you are not only qualified, but have learnt key skills to enjoy hassle-free cruising and offer other resources to help make your Mediterranean holiday perfect. Don’t be under-prepared or risk having your charter cancelled. Gain the ICC, use our resources and prepare for one of the greatest holidays in the world.

Standard Pathway

The most common pathway to the International Certificate of Competence (ICC) is to take three of our courses – International Crew, Bareboat Skipper and VHF Marine Radio. Once you have completed these qualifications it is only a matter of completing an application and you are set to go. If you take all three courses with us we will even pay your ICC license fee (worth $195)! Our Bareboat Skipper course includes modules that cover Mediterranean style berthing and other skills that you need for the Med. If you are already a competent crew with 100 NM and 5 days’ sea time then you can start at Bareboat Skipper. If you already have our Bareboat Skipper Certificate, then it is just a simple matter to apply for an ICC below (just allow 4-6 weeks processing).

Book your International Crew course to get started on the Standard Pathway.

Fast-Track Pathway

For those with considerable experience and/or suitable qualifications you can be fast-tracked in the space of two days. This consists of an online theory exam and joining an Experience Sailing Weekend in which you will be given opportunities to learn and to demonstrate your skills and develop them further. The cost is $1,090 inc. GST for the weekend, IYT exam fee is US$140 and the ICC certificate is $187. You will also need to obtain the VHF Marine Radio license if you haven’t already. You need to submit a sailing CV and complete a self-assessment before being accepted for the Fast-Track Pathway. The two days may be taken as part of a private lesson mid-week with a minimum of two candidates.

Super Fast-Track Pathway

Very experienced skippers, usually those who own a yacht, or those with other suitable qualifications, may qualify for our Super Fast Track pathway. This consists of an online theory exam and a 2-4 hour assessment/training on-water session. You will also need to obtain the VHF Marine Radio license if you haven’t already. The cost is $660 inc. GST for the assessment, US$140 IYT exam fee and $187 for the ICC certificate. A second person can be assessed for $330. You need to submit a sailing CV and complete the self-assessment before being accepted for the Super Fast-Track Pathway.
